The treatment

What is shockwave therapy (ESWT)?

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) delivers high-energy acoustic waves to targeted tissues. These sound waves are used to stimulate blood flow, support tissue repair and help break down painful scar tissue or calcification.

How ESWT works: shockwaves create micro-regeneration effects within damaged tissues. This triggers increased circulation, collagen production and metabolic activity, which may support healing.

Benefits of ESWT shockwave therapy

  • May help reduce chronic pain
  • Can improve mobility
  • Helps break down scar tissue
  • Stimulates the body’s natural healing
  • Supports tendon and ligament function
  • Non-invasive and drug-free

How it works

How does shockwave therapy work?

ESWT is a non-surgical treatment used worldwide for stubborn musculoskeletal pain. At Healing Hands Wellness Singapore, we offer shockwave therapy to help reduce inflammation, support healing and restore mobility safely.

Shockwave therapy fills the gap for conditions that do not respond fully to manual therapy alone, especially chronic tendon and soft-tissue injuries. By combining chiropractic care, shockwave therapy (ESWT) and soft tissue therapy, we deliver a more complete recovery plan.

Shockwave therapy (ESWT) is ideal for patients who

  • Have long-standing tendon pain
  • Experience heel pain or plantar fasciitis
  • Suffer from shoulder or elbow inflammation
  • Need non-invasive pain relief
  • Want to avoid injections or surgery

Shockwave vs chiropractic

Chiropractic targets the joints. Shockwave addresses the soft tissues.

Aspect
Shockwave therapy
Chiropractic
Focus
Tendons, ligaments, muscles and chronic soft-tissue injuries
Spine, nerves and joints
Techniques
Acoustic shockwaves to stimulate tissue healing
Adjustments and spinal manipulation
Approach
Device-based and regenerative
Holistic and targeted
Best for
Chronic soft-tissue problems, such as tendon pain
Spinal alignment and nerve-related issues

Chiropractic and shockwave therapy share the same goal: to reduce pain, restore movement and improve how the body functions. They get there through different but complementary mechanisms.

Shockwave therapy is primarily a tissue-healing modality. It is applied when pain is driven by tendon degeneration, scar tissue or chronic soft-tissue overload. Chiropractic care, on the other hand, is a biomechanical approach used to restore joint motion and spinal alignment.

The benefits of combining them include

  • More complete care: joint alignment and soft-tissue healing are addressed together
  • Better movement efficiency: spine, joints and soft tissues working in harmony
  • Improved mobility: less stiffness and tension in affected areas
  • Support for longer-term stability across the neck, back, shoulders, hips and lower limbs
