1) What does a Chiropractor do?

A chiropractor provides non-invasive treatments with the benefits of spinal adjustments and realigning the joints to improve the system and function throughout the body.

In general, chiropractors believe in the ability of the body to self-heal through Chiropractic adjustment with the help of modalities such as the Flexion distraction table, E-stim, Denneroll, and functional exercises. They also utilize various other treatment modalities such as ultrasound, bodywork, etc. to get patients back to health.

2) What is a Chiropractic adjustment?

A Chiropractor will adjust the joints using a high velocity and low amplitude force to restore any dysfunction (pain) and/ or restrictions that exist in joints of the spine and skeletal system. A chiropractor’s main focus is the spine, as it protects the central nervous system. Some Chiropractors also exercise a very strong background in nutritional assessment, ergonomics, exercise physiology, and preventative care and primarily use a hands-on and holistic approach.

Β

3) Are neck adjustments safe?

Yes, neck adjustments are a very safe treatment when performed by chiropractors as they are trained in the correct techniques to manipulate the joints safely. Chiropractors also ensure that it is clinically safe enough for the adjustment before they perform it. This is why an X-ray is required before more customised treatment can be done to ensure that your body is able to receive it.

4) Is Chiropractic treatment painful?

Chiropractic adjustment should not be painful. However, in some instances when the injury is either acute (happened recently) or sub-acute(on the road to recovery), the muscles and ligaments may prove to be guarded or sensitive to the touch, these are some exceptions.

A thorough examination of your complaints and conditions can alleviate any concerns that you may have.

5) What are the risks and benefits involved in Chiropractic Treatment?

Benefits of chiropractic treatment:

  • Relief of muscle tension
  • Restore motion to the joints
  • Improve body’s physical function
  • Pain reduction
  • More

Β

Risk of chiropractic treatment:Β

In rare cases where a Chiropractor is not well-trained, patients may experience injury to the cervical spine due to improper chiropractic adjustment/manipulation. Always look for reputable companies with Chiropractors having the relevant academic and professional qualifications.Β

Β

FUN FACT:

The chances of getting injured by a Chiropractor are lesser than getting into a car accident or matching with a perfect tinder date.

6) When should you see a Chiropractor?

If you are experiencing any of these issues;

  • Neck/Shoulder Pain
  • Headaches/Migraines
  • Back Pain
  • Knee Pain
  • Pregnancy Induced Pain
  • Sports Injuries
  • Postural imbalance
  • Herniated/Slipped Disc
  • Scoliosis
  • Sciatica
  • Wrist Pain
  • TMJ

Chiropractors also treat a myriad of conditions aside from the ones listed. A rule of thumb is any issues related to muscles or joints. A chiropractor’s education is very extensive and becoming a chiropractor is no simple task. Many chiropractors take at least four years of undergraduate schooling where they receive a bachelor's degree in science or health. This includes classes like psychology, physics, inorganic and organic chemistry, biology, and hours of lab work for each class.

7) What’s the fundamentals of Chiropractic Treatments?

Chiropractic care is gaining recognition as an effective approach to holistic wellness in Singapore. It revolves around the principle that proper alignment of the spine and nervous system is essential for overall health. Through manual adjustments and specialized techniques, chiropractors in Singapore aim to alleviate pain, improve mobility, and enhance bodily function. This approach emphasizes addressing the root causes of health issues rather than merely alleviating symptoms. By optimizing spinal health, chiropractic treatment in Singapore seeks to unlock the body's natural healing capabilities, promoting balance and vitality. Integrating chiropractic care into one's healthcare routine offers individuals in Singapore a drug-free, non-invasive option for supporting their well-being.

8) What’s the science behind chiropractic treatment?

In Singapore, chiropractic care has gained recognition as a holistic approach to addressing various musculoskeletal issues. Research conducted worldwide has validated the efficacy of chiropractic treatment for conditions such as lower back pain, neck pain, and headaches. Studies have shown that chiropractic adjustments can lead to improvements in spinal function, pain reduction, and enhanced mobility. Moreover, research has indicated that chiropractic care can be a cost-effective alternative to traditional medical interventions for certain conditions. As more studies continue to educate about the benefits of chiropractic treatment, its popularity and acceptance in Singapore's healthcare landscape are expected to grow further.Β

Usually, they will have a history taking session and may perform some diagnostic tests using tools and/or hands. Some may also perform a chiropractic adjustment on the first visit. 1) Can Pregnant women receive Chiropractic care?

A mother’s body often goes through drastic physical and biomechanical changes over the nine months of pregnancy. In addition, the labor and delivery (whether vaginally or via C-section) can cause changes in the mother’s pelvic alignment as well as that of the lower and mid-back region. Such misalignment in those structures can bring pain, aches and discomfort during various everyday activities such as walking, nursing, sleeping, and etc; both during and after pregnancy. Chiropractic care can help to restore these misalignments through specific and precise manual therapy, stretches and specific exercises.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is a safe and effective evidence-based alternative medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of common neuromusculoskeletal conditions that can greatly assist you throughout your pregnancy and labor.

A common reason for seeking chiropractic treatment during pregnancy is to correct the spinal alignment and pelvic balance to enable the body to function properly. In order to meet with the physical and mental demands of pregnancy, various physiological changes occur to a woman’s body in order to create a suitable environment for the baby to grow and develop. Chiropractors assist in these demands by helping the body to improve circulation through improving mobility, balanced and relaxed supporting muscles.

1) Can Chiropractic treat slipped disc/herniated disc?

The number of sessions varies from chiropractor to chiropractor. Typically 12 to 40 sessions should be the ideal range, anything more may overwhelm your body. Also, frequency should taper down after 1-3 months and not 3 times a week for your entire program.

2) Can Chiropractic help with immunity?

There is a strong correlation between the spine and the immunity level of a person. The nervous system is connected to the whole body by the spine. Any compression of the nerve pathways could interfere with the communication path and thus weakening the body’s self-defense mechanism against illness. Frequent Chiropractic adjustments help to optimize the spinal health leading to a boosted immunity.

3) Can Chiropractic treat scoliosis?

Although chiropractors do not necessarily aim to β€˜straighten’ the abnormal curve of a scoliosis condition, they can still help in managing it so that it does not become an unnecessary burden in your life or manage it from getting worse. The goal is to allow you to live a life without restrictions and for you to live it to the fullest regardless if you have scoliosis.
Chiropractic treatment is designed to help restore the alignment and functional movements of the spinal joints which can reduce the strain on both the spine and the rest of the body through better movement and function. Additionally, it can help your body and spine to stabilize the progression of scoliosis so that it does not prematurely deteriorate, weaken and lead to more severe symptoms or other associated problems.

4) Can Chiropractic help with correcting posture?

Chiropractors will be able to apply pressure and adjust specific areas of the body. These adjustments are intended to improve the impacted areas that are causing the bad posture. On top of adjusting, Chiropractors can also work on bones and attached muscles to correct imbalances that have been acquired over time.Β

With both muscle releases and strengthening exercises prescribed along with the patient’s commitment to doing it at home, Chiropractors and patients will be able to achieve better results and habits.

5) Can Chiropractic treat Temporomandibular Joint disorder (TMJ)?

Chiropractic treatment for TMJD can help to bring relief from the pain by restoring the motion back to the TMJ and bring balance back to the muscles that are compensating around the joint. Chiropractic treatment will also restore motion back to the surrounding structures that may be contributing to the TMJD like the neck or cervical spine. Chiropractic can alleviate the joint dysfunction leading to pain and imbalance by bringing back the normal mechanics of the TMJ to allow for proper healing to start naturally.

6) Can a Chiropractor help with stress?

The body naturally goes into fight or flight mode when stress arises. As such, the muscles will tense up as a response to it. With a Chiropractor, they are able to help you to loosen the muscles providing relief and allowing the body to be restored to its natural balance during day to day activities like walking or running.Β

Spinal Adjustments by a chiropractor will restore the bodily functions of the spine. As the brain is connected to the rest of the body through the spine, Chiropractors are able to provide the body with natural healing by facilitating the optimal neurological communication between the brain and the key functions like breathing and swallowing allowing for more oxygen to the brain thus reducing the stress levels.

1) Are X-rays needed for Chiropractic adjustment?

X-rays are recommended if you want to take care of your condition holistically and to get to the root of the issues. It is also for the patients safety and for us to rule out any possible underlying conditions that cannot be treated by Chiropractic adjustment. Just like your regular health check up, X-rays serve to give you and the chiropractor an insight to your spinal health as our naked eyes can only tell a rough story.

2) Is radiation from X-rays harmful?

X-rays are a naturally occurring form of electromagnetic radiation, they are produced when charged particles of sufficient energy hit a material. Unlike CT scans, the radiation emitted from X-rays is very low. The benefits of these tests far outweigh the minimal risks involved. Typically the amount of radiation emitted from cervical spine x-rays is about 0.2msv which is equivalent to taking a few flights a year.

3) How often can you take an X-ray?

We usually recommend patients to take subsequent X-rays at least 3-6 months apart. Do inform your chiropractor if you had taken X-rays before and the last date of the most recent X-rays during your first visit. You are also advised to bring along those images for your chiropractor to assess if new ones are needed.

1) How is Chiropractic different from physiotherapy?

Both Chiropractic and Physiotherapy disciplines treat and manage pain and stiffness in your body. However, their approaches may be slightly different.

Physiotherapy

Chiropractic care

Aims to have pain-free movement as one of the key primary goals.

Aims to provide pain relief, and alignment of the spine.

Focuses more on body movement.

Focuses mostly on issues related to neck pain, back pain, joint pain in the arms or legs, and headaches.

Perform stretches and exercises, as well as performing some manipulations for certain conditions, to improve your mobility.

Chiropractors mainly perform manipulations and adjustments to help your body heal itself.
